Challenge

Drawers are full of beauty products that we can’t even remember when we brought them. Just bought one set of new products and found the same one sitting in the corner unopened because other unused products buried them. Many mornings, we made a deal to spend 3hours dedicated to cleaning out drawers and didn’t know where to start. And finally, one morning, we throw away drawers of beauty products that are sure too old to use with 25% of unopened ones. the Arch of the heart! Ouch! After this, we tell ourselves not to waste money like this but to find in the same situation months later…

The challenge of this project is to identify what stands in the way of keeping our beauty shelf clean and organized then come up with solutions to help keep beauty products under control.

Understanding Potential Users

Survey Main Goal (98 Participants from age 20 - 40):

  • What is people’s pattern of buying beauty products?
  • Do people have problems managing their beauty products?‍‍‍

49.84% of participants feel DIFFICULT to manage their beauty products
‍
74.1% of participants state they have TOO MANY beauty products.

After the survey, we interviewed 12 potential users between the ages of 20 to 45 to further investigate their buying behavior and their current management method to better understand what problems they might be having when managing their beauty products.

Manage? It is a HARD job.

01/ Too many useless buys.

02/ It feels awful to throw away their beauty products despite the fact that they are out of date or not fit for their skin.

03/ Unlike fruit or plants, beauty products will not turn green or black when they go wrong. Whether fresh or expired, they look perfect with their beautiful package, but those expired products might do severe damage to your skin.

Wills into Functionality

After we identify the main problems, we brainstorm potential opportunities. However, before we jump into the specific features, we did competitor analysis to investigate:

  • Industry standard
  • What are their users like?
  • What are their users dislike?
  • Common frustrations and common likes

Tailored into Fit

Based on the identified problems, combined with researches we have done so far, I narrowed down to the following potential core features to make the management job easier:

  • TRACK to avoid repeat purchases
  • MATCH to reduce unsuitable purchases
  • REMIND the expiration date in advance to avoid damaging the skin
  • RESELL TO GIVEAWAY unwanted purchases

The four core features serve to TWO goals:

  • Reduce unsatisfied purchases
  • Clear away stocked/ unsatisfied products

In order to accomplish those two points Fresh Beauty needs to:

  • Collect information from users
  • Provide a place for stocked/ unsatisfied products

I focused on prioritizing the key information, setting upevery page
hierarchy to guide users using the app in a simple and effective way.

User tests key takeaway:

Users like the idea of reselling products that are not in use. However, they feel concerned about buying second-hand products.

visual Concept

The overall visual mood of Fresh Beauty is relaxing and clean. I used desaturated colors with a bit of pop color for visual contrast and information hierarchy.

The patterns are inspired by textures on the skin.

The shape and detail for cards and icons are inspired by skin powder compact.

Nunito from the Sans Serif family provides a clean, modern, and minimalist look aligned with Fresh Beauty's brand concept.
